Course Fees

These pages provide you with important information about fees and funding relating to our courses.

When you come to enrol, we will talk to you about your circumstances and see if we can offer you a free course. If you do need to pay a fee, we can let you know about loans and support available. Sometimes funding can get quite complex, so we ask that you get in touch with us for a consultation with one of our advisors.

For more information come in and see us at City College anytime Monday-Friday 09 am – 5 pm.

If you are aged between 16 and 18, you do not need to pay any tuition or exam fees.

Level 1

If you are aged between 19 and 23 on the course start date and need a stepping stone to your first Level 2 qualification, you will not need to pay any tuition or exam fees for an Entry or Level 1 course.

Level 2 and 3

If you are aged between 19 and 23 on the course start date and this is your first qualification at this level, you won’t be required to pay any tuition or exam fees.

English and maths

If you don’t yet have GCSEs grade 4-9 (A*-C) in English and maths, you will not need to pay any tuition or exam fees to take these qualifications.

19+ Advanced Learner Loans

If you are aged 19 and over and want to study a course at Level 3 or above, you can apply for a 19+ Advanced Learner Loan which you won’t have to pay back until you’ve finished your course and are earning over £25,000 a year. If your loan is for an Access to Higher Education programme and you go on to a degree course, you won’t have to repay it at all.

To qualify, you’ll need:

  • to be aged 19 or over at the start of your course
  • to have been a resident in the UK for 3 years prior to the start of your course
  • To enrol on a course at Level 3 or above, including A levels, Diplomas and Certificates, or Access to Higher Education

The loans are not means tested or credit checked, and as long as you meet the criteria above, you can apply for a loan whether you’re employed or not. The loan will be paid to the College on your behalf.
